Infuse Your Home with Health and Positivity Through Spiritual Plants

During the lockdown, I chose to spend a few months back home with my parents, marking my first visit since the onset of the Covid pandemic. Despite nearing their 70s and being retired, my parents managed to live independently throughout the entire pandemic period. Remarkably, they not only remained uninfected but also maintained good health, happiness, and a positive outlook. In stark contrast, despite juggling a full-time job, household responsibilities, and navigating Covid-related challenges, I found myself getting overwhelmingly bored and anxious while staying at home. Upon probing how they managed to stay so serene and occupied during this period, my mother attributed it to her dedication to full-time gardening, a passion that had been sporadic before the lockdown. She invested time in researching and nurturing specific plants to infuse our home with much-needed positivity. Here are the plants she cultivated: Lavender: Renowned for its calming aroma, this houseplant swiftly soothes anxiety and boosts energy levels. It's particularly beneficial for individuals dealing with depression and various mental health issues. Placing it indoors near a south-facing window with adequate sunlight yields the best results. Rosemary: This herb, familiar in culinary use, doubles as a sleep aid and memory enhancer. When appropriately tended to, it aids in combating insomnia and improving memory retention. Optimum growth occurs in bright rooms. Bamboo Plant: Known for attracting good fortune, wealth, and prosperity, the bamboo plant requires minimal maintenance. Placing it in any room with gentle, indirect light and submerging one-third of the plant in water is recommended. Money Plant: A beloved addition to Indian households, the money plant thrives almost anywhere and can even be displayed decoratively in glass bottles. Believed to absorb negative energy, it serves as a positive element in the house. Basil (Tulsi): Acknowledged for its antioxidant and antibiotic properties, Holy Basil or Tulsi holds sacred significance and is used in numerous home remedies. It helps alleviate symptoms of cold, cough, and fevers while clearing negative energy. Orchids: These elegant flowers not only beautify spaces but also aid in stress relief and relaxation. Placing them in rooms with indirect sunlight and ample lighting is ideal. Aloe Vera: Beyond its popular uses for skin and hair care, Aloe Vera also purifies the air. It's suitable for placement in various rooms but particularly beneficial in bedrooms for overnight air cleansing.

While some may prefer living alone to avoid conflicts and disappointments, there is a risk of losing direction without a concrete goal to follow. Gardening: A Therapeutic Escape from Urban Life
A former colleague in a new job found she had to commute two plus two hours daily, a total of four hours, just to get to her workplace and back, taking three different modes of transportation, leaving home at 7:45 am and returning after 9:00 pm. Initially distressed and tired, she soon found a way to boost her spirits. In her modest home in Delhi, on the rooftop, she began to grow flowering and other plants in pots, tending them either before leaving for work or after reaching home late at night. Flowers are restful to look at. They have neither emotions nor conflicts, points out Sigmund Freud.

The Fascinating World of Synesthesia: When Senses Mix and Creativity Flourishes
Can words be tasted on the tongue? Can sounds be seen as colored shapes? Such questions are not hypothetical, nor are they psychedelic hallucinations. They refer to a well-documented neurological condition called synesthesia, in which the senses of taste, sight, and sound synthesize and intermingle to form a new sense or senses, which are a combination of two separate anatomical perceptions. Medical science does not generally deem synesthesia to be an aberration needing treatment or corrective t

Shiva: From 'I' to 'We' – The Journey Beyond Self
In the silence between two heartbeats, in the stillness behind a thought, in the breath that forgets itself—He resides. He is the most disorganised chaos and the most organised order. He is the one who dances wildly in cremation grounds and yet meditates in serene stillness atop Mount Kailash. He is Shiva—formless yet the source of all forms, finite in appearance but infinite in essence.
